The Fleur de Lis Ring was used for a long time. The symbol was so popular that it was part of the top four most important figures in heraldic knowledge. The other ones were the eagle, the lion and the cross.
n a curious note, the Fleur de Lis is also the symbol of the world scout movement. It was chosen by the founder Robert Baden-Powell in 1907. The symbol represented the three pillars of the scout vow, the three principles and duties and the three virtues. Also, the middle petal shows the youngsters the past they should follow, always North, always upwards.
Some scholars say that the Fleur de Lis Ring had its origin in the lotus flower from Egypt, while some other scholars affirm that it was actually inspired by the halberd. The halberd was a three pointed spear that soldiers used to use in ancient times.

Another less popular believe is that it was a copy from the printed design of ancient Assyrian and Muslim coins. Nowadays the symbol has been object of conspiracy theories even. And ultimately it has become a very popular symbol used in tattoos thanks to all the symbolism associated to it.
